Hitachi Lights Up Orchard Road in Singapore for the 31st Year

As a firm believer of contributing back to society, “Powering Good” is of utmost importance to Hitachi. Pursuing a decade of “social innovation”, we take pride in our products and solutions that address challenges confronting society.

While situations and circumstances may change, Hitachi’s commitment to contributing to Singapore’s community remained constant. Other than our core businesses to support the nation’s economic development transformations, Hitachi’s dedication to improve the overall well-being, create happiness and fond memories for the community is well-defined in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities here in Singapore.

Since 1991, Hitachi has continually brought year-end festivities to life on the famed shopping street with its sponsorship for the signature event. The sponsorship of the annual Christmas Light-Up truly echoes of our social values and we look forward to this meaningful and exciting event year after year.

31 years of Christmas Light-Up Sponsorship

We had seen more than 5 million Singaporeans and tourists on the lit streets each year before the pandemic. However, it has become clear that the virus and its effects will be in our midst for a long time. As our fight with pandemic continues, the Christmas Light-Up will come timely to inspire and boost of the spirits of the people.

This year’s theme “Christmas in Bloom” draws inspiration from the botanical richness and beauty of Singapore. The Christmas narrative unravels in three parts – zone 1 features red poinsettias symbolizing the wishes of mirth and celebration, zone 2 features rose gold magnolias with white lines celebrating beauty and resilience, and finally zone 3 showcases the Christmas rose signifying a message of restoration. The three zones come together to bring people into a dream and to share happiness and joy.

On 13 November 2021, the light-up ceremony took on a hybrid model to accommodate more visitors online to share the dazzling moments together. Mr Kojin Nakakita, Chairman of Hitachi Asia Ltd, delivered his address as he shared about the commitment and dedication to “Powering Good”. A fitting tribute to the milestones and accomplishments achieved in the fight against COVID-19, the light-up also signifies a year of revitalisation for its people.

The next highlight of the night took place when President Halimah Yacob activated the light-up mechanism together with Mr Nakakita and other distinguished guests. The 3.1-kilometre stretch was transformed into a dazzling display of lights and decorations. The main arch at the Scotts-Paterson Road junctions features a burst of colourful lights accented by red and rose gold poinsettias. Further down, visitors will see the blooming white Christmas roses and gold marigolds decorations perched on the arches along the streets.

Hitachi Plays Santa

In Hitachi’s journey of giving, employees have also taken the initiative to propose activities to support worthy social causes in Singapore. Aptly named “Hitachi Plays Santa”, the ground-up initiative garnered tremendous support and overwhelming responses from our employees to benefit more than 100 beneficiaries each year.

Since 2017, Hitachi’s employees have partnered various social services agencies each year to spread festive joys to the less privileged communities in Singapore:
